The National Copyright Administration will take the third special action this July to deal with the increasingly frequent internet infringement of movies and TV plays. There are nearly 1,000 internet bars in Guangzhou. They need pay only RMB 1,800 ~ 2,000 a year to have unlimited access to databases of copyrighted movies and TV plays. However, less than half among them are using authentic works now. It is known that about 30% of the customers to internet bars watch movies or TV plays, the major attraction to the customers. Huang Shiqiu, head of Guangzhou Cultural and Entertainment Industry Association (GCEIA) said that some bar owners failed to fully recognize the significance of copyrighted products, but tried every means possible to download unlicensed copies from the internet; once they were brought to the law court, they would pay a huge amount of damages to the copyright holders; and there had been similar cases in Hunan, Beijing, or Shandong, etc. As a matter of fact, in addition to people's negligence of internet copyright, the too many pirated copies can also be attributed to the slow upgrading of copyrighted ones. Beijing Netmovie Co., Ltd. owns the internet and internet-bar publishing rights from a number of movie and TV companies. According to sources from the company, the slow upgrading of copyrighted movies and TV plays has become a major bottleneck to their spreading.

Wang Ziqiang, head of Copyright Division of National Copyright Administration and a spokesperson disclosed that China would initiate the third special action this July to crack down on infringements on the internet.  It is said that the working team of intellectual property has set up reporting centers in 50 cities throughout China. It will also publish the awards for informers by the end of the year. However, considering the high profit of piracy business, it will be impossible to eradicate internet infringements within a short period.
