Commissioner Shen Changyu Attends WIPO Assemblies
On October 3, Beijing time, the 56th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) was held in Geneva, Switzerland. Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C (SIPO) Shen Changyu led China's delegation to the assemblies. At the meeting, Shen Changyu introduced China's progress of building an Intellectual Property (IP) Power, and expressed appreciation to the achievements of WIPO. He also said that international IP rules should be made more widely-beneficial, inclusive and balanced, and appealed for the member countries to approve and take part in the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances, meanwhile looked forward to positive results from topics relating to the Industrial Design Treaty at the assemblies.
2016 Beijing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week opens in E-Town
The 2016 National Mass Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week opened in the Beijing Economic-development area on October 12. The theme of the event was “developing new economy, training new skills”. As the “1+2+N” week’s venue, E-Town itself was themed on “connecting Beijing- Tianjin-Hebei province, wonderful entrepreneurship”, with a special focus on industrial innovation.
E-Town launched 26 events on industrial innovation, parks, platforms, enterprises, talents, and skills to promote international communication, entrepreneurship competition, innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, there were training classes, forums and road shows and investment meetings. More than 100 investment organizations and 10,000 entrepreneurs were in attendance.
Guangxi: IP Office Attends the 13th China-ASEAN Exposition to Jointly Conduct Patent Law Enforcement
Recently, the 13th China-ASEAN Exposition (CAEXPO) was held in Nanning, Guangxi Province. According to the Intellectual Property Security & Anti-Counterfeit Group, 26 law enforcement personnels from 14 city intellectual property (IP) offices within the Guangxi Intellectual Property Office Zone conducted patent law enforcement at the CAEXPO.
SE China Plays Host to Trademark Forum
The 2016 Cross-Straits Trademark Forum, which took place in Pingtan, on September 23, highlighted the island city's importance in cross-straits relations and brought in trademark experts, and representatives of top enterprises who came to discuss trademark and innovation protection and related matters on both the mainland and Taiwan.
The forum's theme was "Young generation, brands, and innovation" and its sponsors were the China Trademark Association and the Chinese Commercial & Industrial Coordination Society.
SIPO-EPO Heads Meeting Held in France
On September 30, Heads of the State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C (SIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) met in Paris, France. Commissioner of the SIPO Shen Changyu and President of the EPO Benoit Battistelli attended the meeting and jointly signed the Work Plan of EPO-SIPO on Bilateral Co- operation 2017. During the meeting, the two sides held in-depth discussion on cooperative projects such as CPC classification, exchange of patent data, EPOQUE and personnel training.
2016 China Trademark Festival Opens in Kunshan
The 2016 China Trademark Festival was hosted in East China's Kunshan from Oct 27 to 30. The event was held at the state-of-the-art Kunshan Exhibition Center, a sleek and modern 36,000 square-meter venue.
The event was the seventh iteration of the festival since its inception in 2005. This year's trademark festival was focused on the theme "Innovation and brand building" and attracted 1,500 famous brand leaders from the UK, the US, Japan and South Korea. The festival was aimed at promoting the prosperous development of new technologies and industries throughout the world. The highly anticipated brand gathering event reflected these aspirations with brands involved in fields ranging from machinery production to daily products on display.
The World Intellectual Property Congress of the AIPPI Held in Italy
The World Intellectual Property Congress of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) was held in Milan, Italy from September 16-20, 2016. It is reported that the event had attracted 2,123 intellectual property practitioners from 87 countries. China Intellectual Property, as one of its official media partners, had sent special correspondents to participate in and report the whole event.
The 23rd China Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Fair Held in Early November
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Forestry Bureau, the State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C (SIPO), the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, the 23rd China Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Fair (hence abbreviated as the CAF) was held from November 5 to 9 at the Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone in Shaanxi Province.
To enhance law enforcement and safeguard legal rights and hence create a favorable investment environment at the fair, this year, related intellectual property (IP) administrative departments continued to participate in the CAF to conduct administrative enforcement of IP laws, coordinate IP protection issues during the fair and broadly publicize IP laws and regulations to the public.
The 1 st China IP Judges Forum Held Successfully in Beijing
On October 25, themed with "the Identification Standard of the Act of Network Information Transmission" and hosted by China IP Magazine, the First activity of China IP Judges Forum series was held successfully in Beijing. Chen Jinchuan, the vice president of Beijing Intellectual Property Court and Zhang Jizhe, the chief editor of China IP Magazine presented and addressed the event. Rui Songyan, a judge of Beijing Intellectual Property, delivered a speech about the Identification Standard of the Act of Network Information Transmission. The discussion process of this forum was presided by Li Mingde, the professor of the IP Center of CASS (Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) and focused on different subjects including “different identification standards of the act of network information transmission and analysis on the legality of different acts of providing Internet services” etc.
2016 China International Patent Fair Opening
On September 9, the 2016 Tenth China International Patent Fair (CIPF) and High-End Forum on Intellectual Property Protection and Innovation opened in Dalian, which was attended by more than 1,500 delegation representatives from home and abroad. This three-day event, sponsored by the State Intellectual Property Office and the Liaoning Provincial People's Government and undertaken by the Dalian Municipal People's Government, took “Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation” as the theme and focused on the development philosophy of “innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing”. A total of 1,000 booths and the nearly 30,000 square meters' area for exhibition display and theme activities were provided to exhibitors from 24 countries and regions including Russia, the US and the UK. The CIPF mainly included two parts, i.e. exhibition display and theme activities. The exhibition display covered 11 exhibition galleries, 1,000 booths and an area of nearly 18,000 square meters for exhibitors from 24 countries and regions such as Russia, Belarus, the US, Britain, Germany, Israel, Hong Kong and Taiwan, China's 29 provinces and autonomous regions, 15 sub-provincial cities, 26 CAS institutes and 35 universities, which represented a total 1,175 enterprises, institutions and related entities and more than 5,500 exhibition projects.
The 16th FICPI Forum Held in St. Petersberg
The 16th Open Forum organized by FICPI (International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys) was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia from October 5, 2016 to October 7, 2016. Surrounded by “Patent”, “Trademark” and “Practical Management”, the forum developed three parallel seminars to offer all of the professionals more opportunities to learn from and interact with experts and their counterparts according to their personal professional demands. About 240 professionals took part in this event. What's more, China IP Magazine is the only media partner who had a booth in the forum.
