The Sixth annual U.S. Ambassador's IPR roundtable conference on intellectual property rights protection and enforcement in China was held on October 24, 2007 in Beijing. Jon Dudas, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce for IP work, gave a speech.

Mr. Dudas emphasized in his speech that, “the U.S. request for WTO dispute resolution was not intended to substitute for bilateral cooperation on a full range of IP issues. Rather, the WTO mechanism is supposed to help resolve specific disputes that have not been solved bilaterally.” The U.S. would like to strengthen communication and understanding with China. “And USPTO remains committed to seeking cooperation with our Chinese counterparts as we plan for the next year and beyond.”

The Ambassador's Roundtable symbolized the open dialogue and communication on IPR enforcement between China and the U.S. At previous Roundtables, Wu Yi and Bo Xilai gave keynote addresses, and government officials from China Customs and State Intellectual Property Office also spoke on multiple panels. But no representative from the Chinese government this year's Roundtable.
