Entitled “IP & Innovation: Propelling Change, Growth and Connectivity”, the BIP Asia Forum featured more than 80 heavyweight speakers and attracted over 2,500 participants.
He Hua, Deputy Commissioner, State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China; Carrie Lam, Chief Executive, HKSAR and Margaret Fong, HKTDC Executive Director attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
He Hua said in his speech, that the report released by the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed that we should quicken our steps to build an innovative country, advocate the culture of innovation and strengthen the creation, protection and application of IP. The current background with innovation as the first motivation of leading development highlights the function of IP. For a country, IP is the surging motivation of innovation and development and the sustainable source of growing fortunes; for an enterprise, IP is the core element of strategic resources and competition to survive and develop.
He also indicated that 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China. Since the return, China Mainland and Hong Kong have kept deepening their cooperation in the IP field and have achieved great results. He expected that Hong Kong will play an important role in the construction of an IP Power and make efforts to help China realize the rejuvenation in the future.
Margaret Fong, HKTDC Executive Director said, “IP is one of the engines driving Asia’s remarkable economic growth and development in recent years and is expected to continue in the future.” “Hong Kong has emerged as Asia’s hub for IP, thanks to our world-class business environment, robust legal and IP arbitration systems, and our extensive network with the Chinese mainland and the rest of the world. Now in its seventh year, BIP Asia has grown into a major annual event promoting global IP trade.”
As the speakers said, BIP ASIA does not only bear all the hopes of IPers, but also provide one of the most important platforms to promote the communication for the IP industry in China and the world.
