Shenzhen, afternoon, May 20 - China Audio and Video Association (CAVA) and the Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC) granted licenses to around 20 local karaoke operators for them to use audio and video works. Up to now, about 50 KTV companies or firms have paid royalties to CAVA and MCSC. On the same day, Huang Shiqiu, head of Guangzhou Cultural and Entertainment Industry Association (GCEIA) said in an interview that the existing contractors are not GCEIA members and hence can not represent the association's members. There have been no GCEIA members who are contractors with CAVA or MCSC. It has been known that the current GCEIA members number more than 400, including Cash Box Guangzhou, Gold Mine Guangzhou and ChaoGe KTV Guangzhou, totally more than 100 well-known large and medium-sized karaoke operators. During an interview, a responsible person from GCEIA said that it would be quite a burden for a karaoke business if the royalties were charged on a per-box basis. The royalties should be computed on a per-click basis, that is, “the charge shall be so precise that each click is accounted; no charge should be levied unless the downloaded karaoke product is demanded.”
