The head of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Feb. 5 met with Chinese premier Li Keqiang at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse (DSG) during his trip to China to attend the opening of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
WIPO Director General Daren Tang also had virtual meetings with Zhang Jianchun, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), respectively on the same day.
China will further strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights, Premier Li said, affirming that the protection of IPRs is equal to that of innovation, during the meeting with Daren Tang. Premier Li also pointed out that next year will usher in the 50th anniversary of China's cooperation with the WIPO and China’s delivery of accession documents to the Hague System and the Marrakesh Treaty, two key WIPO treaties, is demonstrative of China’s commitment to international rules and in China’s own interest.
At the following two virtual meetings with Daren Tang, Vice Minister Zhang Jianchun delivered the accession document to the the Marrakesh Treaty and Commissioner Shen Changyu delivered the accession document to the Hague System. Both treaties will become effective in China on May 5, 2022. WIPO Deputy Director General Wang Binying was present at the two meetings.
Daren Tang congratulated China on hosting the wonderful opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, saying that the WIPO attaches great importance to cooperation with China. He also said the WIPO appreciates China's promulgation of the Guidelines for Building a Powerful Country with Intellectual Property Rights (2021-2035) (銆婄煡璇嗕骇鏉冨己鍥藉缓璁剧翰瑕侊紙2021锛�2035骞达級銆�) and its accession to the two WIPO treaties.
