On January 16 of 2008, the "Olympic Forum of Copyright Protection," jointly organized by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Copyright (BMBC) and Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee (BOOC) was held in Beijing. Experts and scholars in the field of Olympic copyright protection, government officials, and representatives of partners, sponsors, suppliers and franchised operators of the 2008 Olympic Games were invited to the forum to discuss hot topics on how to strengthen the protection of Olympic copyright and how to promote the sound development of the Olympic economy.
Feng Junke, Director of the BMBC delivered a speech regarding the "legal basis of Olympic copyright protection," expressing new measures on Olympic copyright protection. Liu Yan, Vice Minister of the Law Department of the BOOC, noted that copyright is the basis of Olympic IP protection, and the BOOC had put almost all key intellectual properties under protection, including the secondary Olympic symbol, individual sport symbol and torch relay slogan. Concurrently, the BOOC signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Music Copyright Society of China, and obtained the rights to use the copyrights during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
To assist the public in understanding Olympic intellectual property articles, the Forum has included a site exhibition in five zones; the knowledge publicity zone of the Olympic copyright protection policies, the exhibition zone of licensed Olympic commodities, the exhibition zone of excellent Olympic works, the exhibition zone of Olympic's theme expressions, and the exhibition zone of co-organizers of the Olympic Games.
