12,000 Cases of IP Infringement Concluded
12,000 cases of IP infringement were concluded over the past two years in China, with a yearon- year increase of 41% in 2016. Besides, most of IP cases were arising from economically developed regions, like Beijing. Copyright infringement cases accounted for 50.2% of all the IP cases nationwide in 2015-2016, recording 6,000 to be exact, three quarters of which were about infringements upon the information network transmission right and screening right of works. The trials in most of the IP cases have supported or partially supported the claims of plaintiff as compared to only less than 8% of the cases not supporting them.
Agricultural IP Creation Index of China in 2016 Achieves 119.54%
The Agricultural IP Creation Index of China (2017) released recently calculates the quantity trend, quality situation etc. of China's agricultural IP application and license, including the agricultural IP creation index, agricultural IP concentration and other data. China's agricultural IP creation index in 2016 is 119.54%, among which the application index is 120.98%, rising 20.98% than the year of 2015; and the maintain time index is 118.72%, with an increase of 18.72% than 2015, indicating that while China's agriculture industry saw an increase of IP quantity, the quality of IP in this field also improved by a wide margin.
The Copyright Industry Contributes More Than 7% to the National Economic Growth in China
During the 12th Five Year Plan, the copyright industry contributes more than 7% to the national economic growth of China, functioning as a support industry. From the year 2013 to 2016, China's copyright registration number for works has doubled. China Becomes the World's 2nd Largest Target Market for Patent Layout
Recently, the 2016 Research Report on Global Patent Innovative Activities was released, showing that China has become a target market of patent layout only second to US. The Report indicated that from 2008 to 2015, China's publications and grants of invention patents increased at an annual rate of 20.97% and 22.48% respectively. From 2012 to 2015, within 35 technical areas divided by WIPO, invention patent grants of China ranked the top in 13 technical areas including measurement and organic fine chemicals.
China's Total Trademark Applications Expected to Reach 5 Million in 2017
In the first half of 2017, China's trademark applications totaled 2.27 million, an increase of 30.81% over the same period of last year. It is expected that the total number this year will reach 5 million. As of June this year, the number of valid registered trademarks in Mainland of China had reached 53.45 million, equivalent to that every seven market entities hold one registered trademark. Starting from 2005, China has been ranking the first in the Madrid system with 22,314 applications. Statistics show that the trademark applications of Chinese enterprises in other countries have totaled over 300,000.
