On September 18, the 8th Meeting of China-ASEAN Heads of Intellectual Property Offices was held in Suzhou, Jiangsu. Guests addressing the meeting were Shen Changyu, Commissioner of SIPO, Wu Zhenglong, Provincial Governor of Jiangsu People's Government, and Chairperson-in-office for the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation. The meeting deliberated and approved the China-ASEAN IPR Cooperation Plan for 2017-2018. According to the new work plan, the two sides will continue to cooperate in capacity building and IP value evaluation, explore the establishment of a review work sharing mechanism, and enhance interaction with IP users.

 

From August 31 to September 1, the National Brand IP Service Agencies "Jointly Promoting the IP Power Construction of Jiangxi Province"Action held by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and organized by Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Department (of the Jiangxi Provincial Intellectual Property Office) was completed successfully in Nanchang, Jiangxi. The vice commissioner of SIPO, Gan Shaoning and the vice governor of Jiangxi Provincial government Li Li presented and addressed the opening ceremony. About 260 attendees joining this action including the representatives from the IP offices in Jiangxi province and 24 (cultivating) national brand IP service agencies etc.

 

On September 4, Chinese Institute of Applied Jurisprudence (CIAJ) held the Subject Conclusion Meeting of the "IP Judicial Protection of Comics and Animation and Its Derivatives". Since the foundation of this subject group, the group analyzed and summarized the current situation, characteristics and problems of IP judicial protection for Chinese comics and animation through research methods including big data and case study. After a serious review, the attended specialists achieved a common view that the research result had realized the expected goal.

 

On September 6, the 5th China- Mongolia-Russia Seminar and IP Office Heads Conference was held in Vladivostok, Russia. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), Grigoriy Ivliev, Director General of the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), and Sodkhuu Rentsen, Director General of General Authority for Intellectual Property and State Registration of Mongolia (GAIPSR), addressed the conference. The conference i s under the framework of East Russia Economic Forum held by Russian government. This Seminar saw the discussion and communication on regional IP registration system, IP Strategy Implementation of countries and other hot topics.

 

The 8th China Patent Annual Conference themed "Patent Driving Development of Real Economy" was held in Beijing Conference Center on September 5 and 6, 2017. The event was hosted by Intellectual Property Publishing House Co., Ltd., with input from the State Intellectual Property Office, the Ministry of Industry and Information and World Intellectual Property Organization among others. It reached a new stage in terms of patent analysis, exploration and promotion. Elites from various industries shared their views on how to promote transformation and upgrade of Chinese real economy comprehensively.

 

On September 22, the UK-China Intellectual Property Symposium jointly held by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the UK-IPO was completed successfully in London. As part of the UK-China IP Events Week, this annual held Symposium focused on the theme of "Strengthening the Future IP System", with nearly 200 guests attending this event including officials, policy makers and enterprise leaders in China and the UK. The topics being discussed contains "how does IP system adapt to the development trend of the new technology", etc.

 

On September 15, the First China Summit Forum on Trade Secrets was held in Media Center, Beijing. Over 300 representatives including trade secrets experts, chiefs of industries, lawyers and government officials attended the forum to have in-depth discussion about China’s protection of trade secrets of enterprises. Starting from October 1, the General Provisions of Civil Law will take into force. It is one of its highlights to include trade secrets into the objects of IP protection. Sun Yong, Inspectorate Head of the Office of National Leading Group on Fight against IPR Infringement and Counterfeiting said that, trade secrets have arisen as one of the hot topics in the multilateral and bilateral IP cooperation, consultation and negotiation.

 

2017 China Trademark Festival Highlights on the Application and Protection of Trademark and Brand
