EU antitrust regulators will not appeal a court ruling scrapping its 997-million-euro ($991 million) fine against Qualcomm (QCOM.O), Reuters said, citing people familiar with the matter. That means Qualcomm eventually won the antitrust lawsuit that lasted more than four years. In January 2018, the European Commission said Qualcomm had paid billions of dollars to its key customer Apple on condition that Apple could not buy chips from Qualcomm's rivals. The European Commission fined Qualcomm for 997 million euros. Qualcomm then appealed to a European Court of Justice of a higher level. In June, the General Court of the European Union declared the EU's previous ruling invalid, saying procedural irregularities in the Commission's ruling had affected Qualcomm's right of defense. According to Reuters, the European Commission will not appeal because it would be difficult to persuade the EU Court of Justice to rule in its favor.
