EPO released annual report on patent application for 2021

On April 5, the European Patent Office released its annual report for 2021, briefly reviewing the year’s patent applications in Europe. China, with 16,665 applications filed in 2021, ranked fourth with a 9% share of the overall filings, creating a new climax for the number of Chinese patent applications at the EPO (an increase of 24% compared to the data in 2020). And according to the report, Huawei was the leading patent applicant at the EPO in 2021 (as in 2019), followed by 2020's leader, Samsung, and LG. Ericsson and Siemens both moved up a position, to fourth and fifth respectively. Additionally, other Chinese enterprises OPPO, ZTE, Baidu, Xiaomi and Tencent are also in the top 50 of the report’s ranking.
